Stan and his sister, Gwen, were introduced to Gilbert and Sullivan when their father took them to see the operettas performed at his school, Scarborough Collegiate (now R. H. King). They also played the overtures for two productions when they attended the school in the 1950s. (Gwen's piano-playing will be heard off-stage during the minuet in this show.) Stan's interest in G. and S. continued on through performances in the chorus at Victoria College, U. of T. He joined the Society as accompanist in 1972 in response to a request from high-school classmate and Society Director, Nan Wells. Beginning in those high school days, Stan has also written words and music for several shows, and has accompanied many groups and individuals in all styles of performance. Currently he is co-accompanist for the Serenata Singers at their concert appearances and he also travelled to Arizona in January to play for a seniors' burlesque show! Stan taught Latin at David and Mary Thomson C. I. from 1959 to 1994. In recognition of his contribution to school life, the auditorium was named in his honour.
